Burn Ordinance

Some residents of Port Byron aren't aware that Port Byron has an Open Burning Ordinance which clearly specifies what residents can and cannot burn. In an attempt to clarify this matter, the Village is posting this page on the Official Port Byron Website in order to inform them of acceptable and not acceptable items for open burning.

Acceptable:Not Acceptable:
Leaves
Yard Waste
Bonfires*
Wiener Roasts (etc.)
Rubbish Fires
Building/Construction Materials
Rags
Garbage
Hay/Straw or any Material Giving Off Obnoxious Odors

A copy of the Port Byron Open Burning Ordinance can be found here. Your voluntary compliance with the ordinance will help mitigate enforcement that is more stringent.

Please help keep our Village air clean for the benefit of all residents and voluntarily comply with and observe the ordinance.

Thank you,
The Village of Port Byron

* Bonfires and cooking fires are permitted on private property but are not permitted on public land without the written approval of the Fire Chief or his designee.
